WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior
Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) tossed a six-hitter in the first game and struck out a career-high eight, while a five-run fifth inning helped lift the Lycoming College softball team to its first win over Messiah College in eight years, 5-1, to highlight Lycoming's day at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Monday, April 5. The Falcons scored in six of seven innings in the nightcap to post a 12-6 win.

King (1-4) allowed just one unearned run in the fourth inning, leaving seven runners on base, including three stranded on third to lift the Warriors (6-6 overall) to the first game win.

The Warrior offense got started up in the fifth inning after Madison Walter had retired the first 12 batters she faced. Sophomore
Morgan Wetzel (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) led off the inning with a single, took third on an infield single from junior
Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and scored on a grounder to short. After a walk and error loaded the bases, sophomore
Kaleigh Kinley (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) delivered a single through the left side and a pair of errors allowed her to come around to third and all three runners ahead of her to score. After a strikeout, junior
Kacee Reitz (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) delivered a single to left to round out the five-run inning.

Walter (3-3), who tossed a two-hit shutout against the Warriors on Saturday, took the loss allowing five hits and one earned run in the complete game. She struck out eight.

Wetzel, led the Warriors, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run in the game. McKenzie Shannon led the Falcons (7-7 overall), going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double.

In the second game, the Warriors scored all six of their runs in the first two innings, but Messiah was able to score in six of seven innings and notch 21 hits in the 12-6 win.

After the Falcons scored two runs in the top of the first, the Warriors responded when they loaded the bases due to a pair of hit batters and a walk, setting up Klosko, who blasted a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall.

Messiah got a single tally in the second to close within a run at 4-3, but the Warriors came back with two runs in their half of the inning. After two batters were hit, Reitz delivered a single to right for an RBI and senior
Taylor Gessner (Lewisburg, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) added a single down the right field line for another run.

Messiah tied the game in the third with a homer from Olivia Denmark in the top of the third and took the lead with an RBI triple from pinch-hitter Elena Rosas in the fifth. Kinley led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, but was stranded, and Wetzel led off the next inning with a double, but was again unable to tie the score.

Messiah scored two runs in the sixth and added three in the sixth, with Brynne Baker hitting a two-run homer to cap the inning's scoring.

Baker (4-2) allowed four hits and no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. She struck out six to earn the win in relief. Freshman
Kylie Russell (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) (2-1) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing six runs in four innings.

Russell scored two runs for the Warriors and Klosko had a grand slam and four RBI to pace the offense. Four Falcons had three hits, with Denmark leading the team, going 3-for-4 with a run and four RBI.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 10, when they host Misericordia University in a 1 p.m. MAC Freedom doubleheader at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
