WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A bunt single by first-year
Kylie Russell (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) put the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but a pair of popouts helped Arcadia University escape with a 3-2 win in the nightcap of a MAC Freedom doubleheader after a 9-0 win in the first game on Tuesday, April 20, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Junior
Morgan Christine (Reigelsville, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) led off the seventh with a walk and after a strikeout, Russell laid down a bunt that stayed fair down the third-base line to put runners on first and second with the Warriors down a run.

Arcadia used two singles to get a run in the second and added three singles in the third inning to get another run before the Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Russell reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout, stole second, took third on a single to right from sophomore
Madalyn Bechdel (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) and scored on a single up the middle by junior
Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West). Bechdel was caught trying to tie the game at home, though.

In the fourth, a two-out triple and a single helped make it 3-1 in the top of the inning. The Warriors closed within a run, as junior
Kacee Reitz (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) led off with a single to center field. She stole second and scored on a deep double to left by freshman
Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area). A passed ball moved her to third, but a pair of strikeouts and a groundout ended the inning.

In the last three innings, the Warriors left two players in scoring position and Arcadia left three, but neither team could plate more runs.

Shannon Shea went 3-for-3 with a run and RBI and Megan Sooy went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.

Russell led the Warriors, going 2-for-4 with a run and Segraves went 2-for-3 with a RBI double.

Sophomore
Payton Whary (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin Area) (4-3) tossed a complete game, allowing 10 hits, a walk and three runs. She struck out one. Juliana Presto tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs. She struck out eight and walked two. Kylee Schwind earned the save.

In the first game, Arcadia scored six runs in the first inning and Kylee Schwind tossed a two-hitter as the Knights won, 9-0, in five innings.

Arcadia had six singles in the first inning, which helped them plate the runs. They added three unearned runs, one in the third and two in the fifth to complete their scoring.

The Warriors got their first hit in the third inning after a pair of players walked. Bechdel drilled a pitch up the middle, but the lead runner was thrown out at the plate.

Sophomore
Morgan Wetzel (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) led off the third with an infield single to extend her hitting streak to 15 games, the fifth-longest in program history.

Alex Destefano led the Knights, going 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, as they posted 10 hits in the game. Schwind walked three and struck out four in the shutout.

Russell pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief, allowing four hits and no earned runs.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, April 21, when they head to Misericordia University for a 3:30 p.m. MAC Freedom doubleheader.
