MADISON, N.J. – First-year
Kylie Segraves (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) blasted a school-record tying three doubles in game one and added another in game two to key the Lycoming College softball team, which swept past FDU-Florham, 6-1, in game one, and 4-2, in game two of MAC Freedom action on Wednesday, April 14, at McManus Field.
Segraves went 5-for-8 with four doubles during the afternoon, while her three doubles in the first game tied the school record held by Kristi Weaver '16, who did it twice.
In the first game, the Warriors pounded 12 hits while junior
Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) and freshman
Kylie Russell (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) combined for a three-hitter in a 6-1 win.
King started the game by tossing four no-hit innings, allowing Lycoming to build a six-run lead before a walk and a pair of hits led to the Devils' lone run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Warriors got started in the third inning with one out when sophomore
Kaleigh Kinley (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) drew a full-count walk before first-year
Kylie Russell (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) drilled the first pitch she saw over the left fielder's head for an RBI double. Junior
Kacee Reitz (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) followed with a single up the middle to bring around Russell and sophomore
Morgan Wetzel (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) drilled her league-leading fourth homer over the fence in left field to round out the four-run rally.
Lycoming added two more runs in the fifth inning, as sophomore
Taylor Gessner (Lewisburg, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) reached with a one-out single before Segraves drilled a double to left center. After a walk and an out, Kinley doubled down the left field line to bring in the two runners.
Segraves led the Warriors, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and a run and Russell went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and RBI. Wetzel went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and Gessner went 2-for-3 with a run.
Kristen Tigar led the Devils with two hits and a run.
King earned the win, going five innings, allowing two hits, two walks and a run. She struck out two. Russell pitched the last two innings, allowing one hit. Kaleigh Oplinger took the loss for the Devils, allowing 12 hits and six runs. She struck out five.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Glosek (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin Area) drilled a high hopper past a diving shortstop to bring in two runs in the top of the ninth inning of the second game to give the Warriors a 4-2 win.
Gessner led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a single from Segraves, third on a sac bunt, setting up Glosek's single. In the bottom of the inning, Russell got two quick strikeouts and a popout to end the game.
After FDU tied the game with a run in the third inning, the Warriors got the lead back in the fourth, as sophomore
Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) led off with a single. After a groundout, Segraves blasted her fourth double of the day to center field to bring around pinch-runner sophomore
Payton Whary (Coal Township, Pa./Shamokin Area).
FDU-Florham retied the game in the bottom of the fifth, using a leadoff double and a two-out infield hit to do the damage.
The Warriors got on the board in the first inning, as Russell led off with a double to left, before taking third on a sac bunt and scoring on a two-out passed ball.
Gessner went 2-for-4 with a run, Segraves went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and RBI and Glosek went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Colleen Conway and Kacie Centineo each had three hits and a double for the Devils.
Russell earned the win in relief, allowing two hits and striking out three in four shutout innings. Ciara Hoffman took the loss for the Devils, allowing 10 hits and striking out five in a complete game.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 17, when they head to Wilkes University for a 1 p.m. MAC Freedom doubleheader.
