OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior
Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) dribbled once in the lane with the back to her basket, then lofted up one more sweet hook shot that dropped off the backboard and through the hoop to become the 16
th player in the Lycoming College women's basketball team's history to reach 900 career points, with her last of 16 during the game to highlight three Lycoming players in double figures as it fell 88-63 to Stevenson University in a MAC Commonwealth vs. MAC Freedom Crossover Challenge game at Owings Mills Gym on Thursday night, March 18.
Â
Lutz finished her career with 901 points off the strength of her 16-point, 13-rebound, three-assist and three-steal performance. The 6-0 forward became the fourth player in program history to reach 25 career double-doubles and also finished her career with a program-best .527 field goal percentage (382-of-729), second in program history with 138 blocked shots and sixth with 671 rebounds. During her senior year, she averaged 16.2 points and 11.3 rebounds.
Â
Sophomore
Emily Zoscin (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly Area) tied her career-high with 13 points and established a new personal-best with eight rebounds for the Warriors (2-4 overall).
Â
Lycoming also received a career-high 11 points from freshman
Allison Butler (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area). Junior
Allison Wagner (York, Pa./Central York) added seven, and senior
Kelly Vuz (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) and sophomore
Diana Rantz (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) each contributed six.
Â
The Warriors fell victim to a quick start from the Mustangs (5-6 overall), as Stevenson scored the first nine points of the game and led by 12 last in the first quarter before a 3-pointer from Rantz started the Warriors on a 16-2 run that put the Warriors ahead, 24-22 with 6:42 left in the second after an old-fashioned 3-point play from Zoscin.
Â
The Mustangs responded with a run of nine straight points and outscored the Warriors, 22-7, the rest of the quarter to take a 12-point lead into the break, even though the Warriors shot 70 percent (7-of-10) from the field in the quarter.
Â
A run of 16 straight Mustang points late in the third quarter took a 10-point game and put it out of reach, but in the final period, Lutz was able to score four points to reach the 900-point mark and Vuz added two free throws as well to give her 261 points in her three-year career.
Â
Lycoming shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the field, including 38.9 percent (7-of-18) on 3-pointers, but the Mustangs hit at a 52.2 percent clip (36-of-69) from the floor and tallied 56 of their 88 total points in the paint alone.
Â
Four Mustangs finished in double figures led by 18 points, five rebounds and four blocks from Olivia Coleman and 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds from Brandi Hall.
