Warriors lead 10th-ranked Aggies at half

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Kyle Powell (Philadelphia, Pa./Lincoln) found the corner on a 41-yard screen pass to score the first touchdown and help the Lycoming College football team lead by a point at halftime, but 10th-ranked Delaware Valley University was able to score four times in the second half to post a 32-7 Middle Atlantic Conference win at David Person Field on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Lycoming (3-2 overall, 2-1 MAC) held Delaware Valley (4-0 overall, 3-0 MAC) to 275 total yards and 106 yards passing, but the Aggies forced six turnovers and held the Warriors to 222 total yards.

Senior Elijah Shemory (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) finished 14-of-25 for 134 yards and the touchdown to Powell, who caught two passes for 43 yards. Shemory also ran 11 times for 17 yards. Senior Tyjah During (Accokeek, Md./Surrattsville) finished with three catches for 29 yards.

Senior Sam Pittsman (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) and junior Cole Senior (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) each had eight tackles, one for loss, senior Gianni Bryant-Lopez (Delran, N.J./Delran) had five stops and a fumble forced and recovered to go with a breakup. Sophomore Coleman Witherite (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) notched four stops and an interception.

Neither team could gain much traction offensively in the first quarter until the Warriors got the ball back with 1:47 left in the period at their own 31 and Shemory found senior Tre' Leach (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) for a 14-yard gain and a personal foul moved the ball ahead 15 more yards. Two plays later, Powell found open space on the screen pass for the touchdown.

The Aggies closed within a point after an interception and a personal foul set the Aggies up at the Lycoming 17 and two plays later, John Davis dove in. A missed extra point kept the score 7-6 in favor of Lycoming at the break. The Aggies added two more scores in the fourth quarter, the last coming on a 46-yard scoop and score by Yusuf Aladinov.

The third quarter started with a pair of interceptions that set up scores for Delaware Valley, the first returned to the three-yard line by Blaine Netterman and the second returned 31 yards for a score by Prevard, making it 18-7.

DaQuan Bohannon finished 12-of-30 for 99 yards and a touchdown and Donte Simmons rushed 14 times for 56 yards to lead the Aggies offense. Michael Nobile led the Aggies with seven tackles and three sacks. Prevard had two interceptions, as did Netterman.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 9, when they host Misericordia University at 1 p.m. in another MAC game at David Person Field.
