Dangerfield leads Warriors against Knights

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) reached 20 points for the third straight game, notching 23 to go with five assists, to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team, which fell late to Arcadia University, 72-67, in MAC Commonwealth action at Lamade Gym on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8.

Freshman Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) finished with 17 points and freshman Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine assists.

The Warriors (15-7 overall, 8-5 MAC Commonwealth) fought through 12 lead changes and three ties with the Knights  (13-9 overall, 8-5 MAC Commonwealth) in a back-and-forth battle.

Neither team took more than a six-point lead in the second half, as the Warriors and Knights traded six lead changes and two ties. Dangerfield pushed the lead to six with eight minutes left on a strong drive to the basket, and again two minutes later to make the score, 63-57. The Knights responded with nine straight points, with Da'Kquan Davis hitting a pair of free throws to make it 66-63 with 3:42 left. Harward responded with an old-fashioned 3-point play with 2:47 to play, tying the game.

Davis hit two free throws with 2:28 left before sophomore D'Andre Edmond (Pflugerville, Texas/Pflugerville) hit a free throw with 2:12 left. Lycoming missed its next three shots and Arcadia hit a fastbreak bucket with 10 seconds left to take a 70-67 lead. A turnover helped Arcadia clinch the win with two more free throws with two seconds left.

Lycoming shot an efficient 48 percent for the game, but Arcadia held a 23-14 edge in points on turnovers.

After two buckets from conference scoring leader Da'Kquan Davis, the Warriors turned to Harward, who knocked down two 3s and sophomore Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) added a two-point bucket to get out to a 8-6 lead. A monstrous Harward block in next Arcadia series started the Warriors on a 17-7 run to stretch to its largest lead of the game at 12 with 9:35 to play in the first half.

A Harward layup and freshman A.J. MacKrey (Lake Worth, Fla./Olympic Heights) jumper kept the lead at 12 with 7:32 to go before Arcadia responded with a 21-6 run to end the half with a 38-37 lead.
