Rory Hines (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team held off a late rally from Washington & Jefferson for a 10-9 win on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, at UPMC Field.

Michael Scarponi (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) scored two goals and
Blake Premo (Massena, N.Y./Massena) added two assists for the Warriors (2-0 overall).

The Presidents (0-2 overall) closed a 9-2 gap in the fourth quarter, as Benjamin Ward scored five of the team's seven goals in the period, including a score with 3:51 left to make it a 9-8. Sophomore
Justin Joseph (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) assisted freshman
Joe Corozzo (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore), as the Warriors score quickly off the faceoff, for the two-goal difference with 3:41 left in the game.

The Presidents had a chance to tie with 37 seconds left, but junior
Jake Davis (Honeyoye, N.Y./Honeyoye) came up with a big groundball to end the threat.

The Warriors scored six goals in the opening frame. Massaro found the back of the net five minutes in. Another goal by Hines came two minutes later and Collins scored on an assist from Premo before Scarponi scored with 8:18 to go gave Lycoming a 4-0 advantage.

Hines scored again with seven minutes remaining, assisted by Premo, and Scarponi scored his second goal of the day at the six-minute mark.

Washington & Jefferson got on the scoreboard with a goal by Benjamin Ward with six minutes to play in the second quarter before Hines recorded his third goal of the game to give Lycoming a 7-1 lead at the break.

The Presidents opened the third quarter with a goal from Pat Moeller with 5:47 to play. Sophomore
Owen Zimmerman (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) and Hines responded, scoring two goals with 4:32 and 3:49 remaining, respectively, setting the stage for the fourth quarter.Â

The Warriors held a 44-23 groundball advantage and won 16-of-22 faceoffs, with Joseph claiming 14. Freshman
Cameron Kuzniar (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) stopped eight shots in goal. Noah Cohen stopped 21 shots of Lycoming's 51 for the Presidents.
