Dangerfield’s career-high double-double leads Warriors over Hood, 93-87

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Shooting 73 percent (11-of-15) from the field to finish with a career-high 31 points to go with a career-best 12 assists and seven rebounds, junior Darius Dangerfield (Abington, Md./Harford Tech) led the Lycoming College men's basketball team to a 93-87 MAC Commonwealth win over Hood College on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Lamade Gymnasium.

Dangerfield hit 8-of-11 from three-point range, as the Warriors (14-6 overall, 7-4 MAC Commonwealth) shot 50 percent from downtown for the game. Freshman Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) made five 3-pointers for 19 points, sophomore Mo Terry (Severn, Md./Severn School) scored 18 points and freshman Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added 11 points.

Dangerfield locked in early with a quick three-point bucket to start the game, while dishing out an assist to Terry on back-to-back possessions, as the Warriors built a double-digit lead four minutes into the game with Dangerfield's second three-point shot in a 13-2 opening run. The Warriors used long range to build up a 14-point lead, as Dangerfield added on two more 3-pointers and Terry drive for a layup with 13 minutes left in the half.

Hood (12-7 overall, 5-5 MAC Commonwealth), the preseason conference favorites, cut the Warriors' lead down to as low as seven points in the half, but each time Lycoming responded with a three-point bucket to maintain the gap as Dangerfield and Ilodigwe each hit four to give the Warriors a 45-37 lead at the break.

With just under six minutes to go in the second half, Hood cut the Warriors lead down to one after a pair of free-throws from Mason Wang. Dangerfield responded with his seventh and eighth 3s of the game, as the Warriors went on an 11-0 run to push its lead back up to double-figures.

The Blazers final push came with two minutes left with a 12-2 run to get within two (84-82), when Wang hit a 3-point shot. Senior Ryan Hollis (Centerville, Md./Saints Peters & Paul) hit the Warriors' 18th 3-pointer of the game on the next possession and Harward drove for an and-one with 18 seconds remaining to seal the win. Hollis finished with nine points and 11 assists.

Mason Wang had a game-high 35 points, hitting 14 free throws and adding four assists to lead the Blazers. Tyler Evans added 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals and Michael Riley had nine points and six rebounds.

Lycoming travels to MAC Commonwealth foe Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 5, for a 6 p.m. tip before the women's teams play.
