MALVERN, Pa. – Freshman
Jessica Umpstead (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery Area) scored three goals and dished out an assist to lead the Lycoming College women's soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Immaculata University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21 at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Warriors (5-2-1 overall) are 4-0-1 over their last five games, while outscoring their opponents 13-4 in that span.
Umpstead is the first freshman to notch a hat trick since
Jordan Lazarich '17 did so twice in 2014 and her seven points are sixth-most in single-game program-history.
After the Mighty Macs (2-6 overall) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a score from Kelli Dombroski in the sixth minute, the Warriors countered with four unanswered goals. Lycoming struck twice in the 28
th minute, with sophomore
Bailey Gilmore (Ivyland, Pa./Germantown Academy) scoring her first of the season and Umpstead netting her first of the day.
Sophomore
Alicia Blizzard (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) helped the Warriors extend their lead to three with a foot in the next two scores, dishing an assist to Umpstead in the 30
th minute before connecting on her first goal of the season off a pass from Umpstead in the 56
th minute.
The Mighty Macs followed with a goal in the 57
th minute from Kelli Dombroski. However, Umpstead notched another score in the 88
th minute to put the stamp on the victory.
Sophomore
Jess Riordan (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) earned the victory in net for the Warriors, tallying seven saves. Maddy Terry made six stops for the Mighty Macs.
The Warriors are back on the field on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. when they head to SUNY Delhi for a non-conference game.
