First-half goals lift Warriors over Dickinson

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A pair of first-half goals and the first career shutout by freshman Kevin Kelly (Great Barrington, Mass./Berkshire School) lifted the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Dickinson College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 18 at UPMC Field.

The Warriors improved to 3-3 on the season, as seventh-year head coach Nate Gibboney won his 90th career game.

The Warriors got on the board in the eighth minute when senior Tanner Fonjweng (Bear, Del./Glasgow) fought through the Red Devils' defense to the far-right end line, where he fired a cross to a cutting sophomore Kalu Ume (Laurel, Md./Laurel), who beat the keeper right with his left foot for his first goal of the season.

The Warriors extended their lead to two in the 17th minute when Alex Henry (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) sent a perfectly placed free-kick from 35-yards out into the box that was going directly towards a leaping sophomore Colin Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), forcing a Red Devils defender to head the ball into the back of the net in an attempt to knock the shot out of play.

Kelly earned the shutout by making five saves on 19 shots faced in the full 90 minutes. Frederick Meagher made one save for the Devils in the first 73:30 before being relieved by John Baney.

The Warriors are back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. when they host Eastern University in non-conference action at UPMC Field.
