Warriors sweep Lock Haven for first win

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lycoming College women's tennis team posted a 7-0 win over NCAA Division II team, Lock Haven University, on Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Lock Haven University Tennis Courts.

The match was the first in a regeneration of the sport at Lock Haven (0-1 overall), and Lycoming (1-1 overall) agreed to take the short trip to Lock Haven to be the first opponent that Lock Haven played since the program was discontinued in 1992. It was Lycoming's first win over the Bald Eagles, as they lost to the program three times from 1977-79.

Lycoming didn't drop a set to the new program, as senior Hannah Summerson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport), freshman Aubrey Chambers (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County), sophomore Wiliana Lundy (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) and junior Madi Heller (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) each won both their singles and doubles matches. Junior Abby Flemming (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) also added a win at No. 5 singles.

With the pair of wins, Summerson became the third Warrior to win 80 career matches, joining Cricket Temple (1999-02, 86-11) and Meredith Moerschbacher (1999-02, 81-10), as she has posted a 42-21 record in singles action and a 38-24 mark in doubles. The senior moved into second in program history in career doubles wins with the 8-1 win with Chambers over Delani Wolever and Hailey Risley at No. 1, and is just one win from the school record of 39 set by Heidi von Schwedler (2000-03).

Chambers and Heller each won their first career singles matches, with Chambers downing Hailey Risley, 7-6, 6-0 at No. 2 and Heller beating Victoria Bensinger, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4. The doubles team of Lundy and Heller also won their first match together, beating Jayna Brodnicki and Bensinger, 8-0, at No. 2.

The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Sept. 18, when they host Susquehanna University at 4 p.m. at Brandon Park.
