WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Thanks to the scheduling quirks involved in an 11-team Middle Atlantic Conference, the Lycoming College football team will take on one of its biggest conference rivals, Widener University, in a non-conference game to open David Person Field for the 2019 season on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019.

The Warriors (0-1 overall) fell to Susquehanna, 42-26, in its first game on Sept. 7. Sophomore quarterback Elijah Shemory tossed for 231 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another. Senior Stephen Toczylousky had career highs of three catches, 83 yards and a touchdown.

The Pride (1-0 overall) opened their season with a 38-28 win over Rowan. Senior James Gillespie had 158 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the game.

Warrior Notes
• The Warriors are 7-4 in home openers under head coach Mike Clark and are 44-24 in home openers all-time.

• This is the 50th Lycoming football home opener for assistant head coach Steve Wiser. He joined the Warriors as a player in 1970.

• Junior Jamie Fisher needs to make four more field goals to tie the school record of 30 set by John Phillips (1989-92).

• Four Warrior seniors are closing in on 100 tackles in their careers - Jarrell Payne (98), Sam Pawlikowski (97), Ahmad Curtis (96) and Korahn Williams (93).

• Seniors Dezmen Johnson (four catches, 57 yards) and Stephen Toczylousky (three catches, 83 yards) and junior Tyjah During (three catches, 55 yards) all had career highs in receptions and receiving yards against Susquehanna.

• Junior Allan Martin (8), sophomore Willie Garner (5) and senior Duane Boone (4) had career highs in tackles at Susquehanna.

Fisher's Field Goals
With two field goals at Susquehanna, senior Jamie Fisher continued his climb up the  school's career field goal record book, finishing the game with 26 in his career. Fisher was perfect on field goal attempts against the River Hawks, hitting a 33- and a 40-yarder, as he moved within four of the school record of 30 made field goals set by John Phillips from 1989-92. As a junior, senior Jamie Fisher finished 25th in Division III with 0.92 field goals made per game. He has hit two of the top-10 longest field goals in program history and he has already set a school record with seven career 40-yard field goals. Having hit 10-of-17 field goals in 2018, Fisher is also the first Warrior in program history to hit 10 field goals in back-to-back years after hitting 13-of-18 as a sophomore.

Reaching 100
After four Warriors reached 100 career tackles in 2018, four more are on track to do it early in the 2019 season.  Senior Jarrell Payne, a linebacker, leads the group with 98 career tackles, posting 19 as a freshman, 42 as a sophomore, 33 as a junior and four this year. Senior Sam Pawlikowski, a linebacker, has added 97 stops, posting two as a freshman, 59 as a sophomore, 30 as a junior and six this year. Senior Ahmad Curtis, a defensive lineman, has 95 in his career after posting 12 as a freshman, 31 as a sophomore, 50 as a junior and three this year. Senior Korahn Williams, a defensive back, is the fourth Warrior on path to reach 100 tackles, as he has 93, posting 38 as a freshman, 28 as a sophomore, 24 as a junior and three this year.

Senior cornerback D.J. Boyd is the lone Warrior to already have 100 tackles, posting 118 in his career. He posted 25 tackles as a freshman, 13 in an medical hardship year and 52 as a sophomore, 25 as a junior and three this year. 

Running it in
Although sophomore Elijah Shemory has tossed for 17 touchdowns in his career, he has also done a remarkable job finding the endzone with his feet, rushing for nine touchdowns. As a freshman, he scored eight times, all on quarterback sneaks, which was tied for second in program history for a Warrior QB, behind only Larry Barretta's 10 rushing touchdowns in 1984. In the opening game of 2019, Shemory burst past the line and scored on a 25-yard run on a 4-and-1 in the second quarter against Susquehanna.

Finding new targets
After a trio of Warrior graduates accounted for more than 70 percent of the team's receiving yards in the past three years in Nick Costello, Brock Zollicoffer and John Kim, sophomore Elijah Shemory picked out some new targets, as he threw for 231 yards against Susquehanna. Leading the way were seniors Dezmen Johnson (four catches, 57 yards) and Stephen Toczylousky (three catches, 83 yards) and junior Tyjah During (three catches, 55 yards), who all had career highs in receptions and receiving yards. 

Golden Anniversary
Assistant head football coach Steve Wiser will participate in his 50th home opener at David Person Field when kickoff comes on Saturday. Wiser came to Lycoming as a linebacker in 1970, spending four years with the team and earning two All-MAC honors. In 1974, he was hired as an assistant coach for linebackers under head coach Frank Girardi and in 1978, he was promoted to defensive coordinator. He has held that title since, adding assistant head coach in the 1980s. Wiser has been associated with Lycoming athletics longer than anyone in the 130-year-old department's history, as his four years as a player and 46 as a coach distance him from Girardi (39), former assistant football coach Robb Curry (37),  former wrestling coach Budd Whitehill (37), former women's tennis coach Deb Holmes (34) and former men's basketball coach Dutch Burch (32).

Seeing Double
In 2018, junior twin brothers Mike and Matt Kalyan reached the top of the team's linebacker depth chart, as both started next to each other in week six against Delaware Valley. This season, the Warriors have another brother act that has risen to the top of the two-deep, as junior Ethan Newton and sophomore Brent Newton are set to start their second game together, with Ethan projected to start at center and Brent to start at right guard.
