Warriors sweep on opening day at Clarks Summit quad

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – With a dramatic five-set comeback win, the Lycoming College volleyball team wrapped a sweep of a quad-match at Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 31, defeating Wilkes, 3-2, after posting 3-0 sweeps of Penn College and Clarks Summit.
 
Down 14-11 in the fifth set to Wilkes (1-2 overall), the Warriors (3-0 overall) fought off three match points, with junior Elle Jednorski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) using a slice from the left side to tie it and senior Katie Hausknecht (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) found the floor on the next point from the right side for the team's fourth straight kill. Wilkes fought off one match point, but junior Kiannah Titus (Clay, N.Y./Baldwinsville) got the second match point to the floor with a tip just over the net, giving Lycoming the 17-15 win.
 
The Warriors fell in the first two sets, 25-20, to the Colonels (1-2 overall), before storming back in the third set, posting a 25-21 win and using a late burst to provide a 25-18 win in the fourth, setting up the final stanza.
 
Jednorski led the Warriors with 11 kills and senior Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) added seven kills, 23 assists and nine digs. Titus posted six kills and 13 digs and senior Lilly Singleton (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) also had 13 digs, three aces and three kills. Senior Lindsay Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) had a match-high 23 digs.
 
Jamey Mikovich led the Colonels with 12 kills and 22 digs and Michele Natale had 10 kills.
 
Holding Clarks Summit (0-1 overall) to a -.056 hitting percentage, the Warriors used a stout defensive effort to post a 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-22) win in the second match of the day.
 
Freshman Elizabeth Kelson (Denville, Pa./Morris Catholic) led the Warriors with six kills and four blocks and Morris added five kills, 18 assists, eight digs and three aces. Beck posted 14 digs and an ace and Singleton added three kills and 10 digs.
 
Beth Muhlenkamp led the Defenders with seven kills and seven digs and Alexa Wagner had 15 assists and seven digs.
 
Against Penn College (0-1 overall), the Warriors jumped out with large rallies in the first two sets to post a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-21) sweep.
 
The Lycoming defense scooped up 34 digs and notched four blocks as it held Penn College to a -.164 hitting percentage.
 
Kelson led the Warriors with six kills and four blocks and Jednorski added four kills and two digs. Beck posted 14 digs and three assists and Morris notched 13 assists, five digs and a block.
 
Emalie Marnati posted four kills and two blocks to lead the Wildcats.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when they host Mount Aloysius in a non-conference match at 7 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
