WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore
Taylor Gessner (Lewisburg, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) went 4-for-8 with a double and a run scored, but the Lycoming College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games with Misericordia University, 4-3 and 6-1, on Thursday afternoon, April 11, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

In game one, Misericordia struck for three runs in the fourth to get the first runs of the game.

The Warriors (14-11 overall) immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to one. Gessner led off with a single and scored when junior
Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) sent a shot down the left field line for an RBI double. Freshman
Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) moved Kline to third with a sacrifice bunt and freshman
Kacee Reitz (Milton, Pa./Milton) brought the run in with a sacrifice fly to shallow right field.

The Cougars brought in a run in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 4-2 with a homer from Ciara DeLong.

After a scoreless sixth, freshman
Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) led off the final inning by reaching on an error and was pinch ran for by senior
Cayla Treaster (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville). Reitz singled to left and junior
Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) moved up both runners with a sacrifice bunt to set up second and third with one out. Freshman
Morgan Christine (Reigelsville, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) flew out to right to bring in Treaster, but Reitz was caught trying to sneak home after the ball got past the catcher to end the game.

Gessner finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Kline also added a double and Reitz singled to lead the Warrior offense.

Senior
Liz Nace (Perkasie, Pa./Pennsbury) (5-6) allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out four in seven innings of work.

Brooke Moyle picked up the win for Misericordia, tossing seven innings, allowing three runs, two of them earned, on four hits and striking out three. Moyle also sparked the Cougar offense, going 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

In game two, the Cougars scored in each of the first three innings, striking for one in the first, two in the second and three in the third to lead 6-0 through the first four innings.

The Warriors brought seven hitters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth, but only plated one to make it 6-1 after five. Christine singled to lead off the frame, was pinch ran for by freshman
Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood), and Warriner followed with a bunt single. Freshman
Isabella Gackenbach (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) moved both runners up with a successful sacrifice bunt and reached safely at first with a throwing error, which forced in King.

Freshman
Mikayla Aldenderfer (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) threw four shutout innings to close out the contest, while allowing just two hits.

Gessner finished 2-for-4 and Brown went 3-for-4 with three infield singles. Nace, Klosko, Warriner and Christine all added singles and King scored a run.

Aldenderfer's stat line consisted of four earned runs on nine hits. She struck out five.

Miranda Bohn picked up her team-leading 10
th win of the season for the Cougars, allowing one run on nine hits in seven innings of work. She struck out seven. Bohn also led the hitting attack, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, April 13, for a 1 p.m. doubleheader when they host Hood College in MAC Commonwealth action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
