WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman
Jordyn Altland (Hanover, Pa./South Western) made a career-high 16 saves to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team, but Lebanon Valley College broke open the game in the second half to spark a 17-6 MAC Commonwealth victory on Wednesday night, April 10 at Arnold Field.
Senior
Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, Pa./Randolph) won 10 draw controls, picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers to go along with two scores, as she moved within one of the NCAA Division III draw control of 189 set by Adrian's Brianna Plester set in 2014. McGinniss is tied with Bridgewater State's Lauren Geary for second in the Division III record book, and she is also four points shy of becoming the first player in school history to reach 300 in a career.
The Warriors (2-11 overall, 0-5 MAC Commonwealth) went goal-for-goal with the Flying Dutchmen (6-6 overall, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) in the first half to enter the second period of action trailing 6-4. Lebanon Valley, however, scored six straight out of the break.
Junior
Hailey Kimble (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) and senior
Kim Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) scored to sandwich a Lebanon Valley goal to close within seven goals with 11:28 to go. Lebanon Valley's defense did not allow another goal, though, to post the win.
Junior
Hailey Kimble also scored two goals on six shots and added two draw controls, while sophomore
Cecilia Massey (Middletown, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) and Rutherford each added a goal.
McGinniss knotted the game at one two minutes into the contest. The Flying Dutchmen answered with three straight goals to gain a 4-1 advantage with 23:33 to go in the half. The Warriors responded with three unanswered goals from Kimble, McGinniss and Massey to tie the game, but Lebanon Valley scored twice to to close out the half and head into the break holding a 6-4 lead.
Brittany Hathaway led the Flying Dutchmen with five goals and Veronica Venezia added four. Hannah Oliveras picked up the win in net for the Flying Dutchmen, making six saves before being relieved by Leah Franklin, who made five stops.
The Warriors are back in action for Senior Day on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m., when they host Arcadia University in MAC Commonwealth action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
