EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Senior
Liz Nace (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) threw nine-complete innings, while stranding four runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth to lead the Lycoming College softball team in an extra-inning thriller, but Wilkes University scored four runs in the bottom of the tenth to win, 8-7, in the back half of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 27 at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Lycoming also fell 8-1 in the opener.

After both teams successfully pushed across runs in the eighth and ninth inning, the Warriors (10-4 overall) broke out for three runs in the top of the 10
th to take a 7-4 lead.

Freshman
Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) was placed on second to start the inning. Senior
Cayla Treaster (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) reached on a fielder's choice to set up first and third with no outs. Junior
Madison Brown (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) singled to left to knock in King and Nace laid down a bunt to advance the runners. A wild pitch scored Treaster, while Brown moved to third and junior
Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) walked to bring junior
Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) to the plate with runners at the corners. Warriner grounded out to short to knock in Brown and cap off the rally.

The Colonels (12-7 overall) opened up their half of the 10
th with four straight hits, including three singles and a triple to tie the game back at seven. With two outs, the Colonels' Erin Cabry hit the first pitch she saw into center field for a single to score Haley Boyd.

Brown finished 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs and two RBI. Kline extended her hitting streak to 21 games, finishing 1-for-3 with two walks and a run. Freshman
Morgan Klosko (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and senior
Lexie Kovin (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) added a hit and an RBI and Warriner also knocked in a run.Â

Nace (3-1) allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on 10 hits and struck out two. Rhiannon Aurand threw all 10 innings for Wilkes, allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits.

The Warriors struck for two runs in the top of the first to take the early 2-0 advantage. Brown led off with a walk and Kline singled to set up first and second with one out. Warriner grounded out to shortstop to move the runners up a bag and Klosko doubled to left center to score the runners.

The Colonels added a run in the bottom of the first and another in the third off a game-tying solo homer from Gab Giordano.

Nace started to settle in, working scoreless frames from the fourth to the seventh to send the game into extra innings.Â

In game one, a two-out double by Kline and an RBI single by Klosko gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Colonels, however, responded with a four-run bottom half to regain the lead, adding two more runs in the second and fifth innings.

Kovin finished 2-for-3 and Klosko was 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Warriors. Kline added a double and a run.

Freshman
Mikayla Aldenderfer (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) (7-3) allowed seven runs in four innings on eleven hits, striking out two. Treaster tossed the final two shutout innings.

Celine Podlesney earned the win with a complete game four-hitter, allowing one run. Podlesney also led the Wilkes offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Haley Welker also finished 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Warriors remain on the road as they head to Arcadia University for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at Blankley Field.
