Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Warriors rally falls short at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – Freshman Jordyn Altland (Hanover, Pa./South Western) made a career-high 12 saves, but the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team fell to Marymount (Va.) University, 16-12, on the final day of spring break, Sunday, March 17, at Long Bridge Park.

Senior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) notched her seventh straight game to start the season with three or more goals, netting six scores to go along with 19 draw controls and two ground balls. McGinniss, who owns the top five slots for single-game draw controls in program history, was two shy of her school record 21 set against Susquehanna on March 2.

She continued to make moves in the record books, as she became the first player in Middle Atlantic Conference history to post 100 draw controls four times in a career, and her 496 career draws moved her into sixth in Division III history, as she moved past Colorado College's Steph Kelly (2015-18) during the game. She finished the game with 241 career goals and 28 assists for 269 career points, just seven points shy of the school record of 276 set by Megan Wallenhorst (2005-08).

Freshman Erika Boyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and sophomore Cecilia Massey (Middletown, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) each scored two goals for the second straight game. Boyer also dished out two assists and Massey added two ground balls. Junior Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York Area) had a goal and an assist and freshman Emma Lehr (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added a goal.

Goals by Peti and McGinniss gave the Warriors (1-6 overall) their first lead of the contest, 2-1, with 18:29 left in the first half. The Saints (5-4 overall) responded with three unanswered before McGinniss scored her second goal at the 12:33 mark.

Boyer scored two straight goals to tie the game at five with less than three minutes to go in the half. However, Marymount outscored Lycoming 3-1, with McGinniss notching her third goal, to head into the break holding an 8-6 advantage.

The Warriors kept within two with a man-up goal from Massey with 24:33 left. The Saints countered with five straight goals over the next eight minutes to earn their largest lead of the game, before the Warriors scored four out of the final six goals, led by three from McGinniss and one from Lehr, closing the final margin to four goals.

Jessica Crew scored seven goals and Madison Davis netted three while dishing out two assists.

Holly Reik saved nine shots in the first 52 minutes to earn the win. Megan Gagnon closed out the contest, finishing with two saves.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m. when they host King's (Pa.) in a non-conference game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
