Warriors’ rally falls short against Widener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Elle Sarracco (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) scored her team-leading fourth goal to help the Lycoming College women's soccer team tie the game in the second half, but Widener University scored in the 87th minute to escape UPMC Field with a 2-1 MAC Commonwealth victory on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5.

Ashton Hourbury scored the game-winner from 35 yards out off an assist from Melissa Koch.

The Warriors (7-4-1 overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) tied the contest in the 50th minute when sophomore Bailey Gilmore (Ivyland, Pa./Germantown Academy) sent a chip pass into the heart of the box to a cutting Sarracco, who placed a header over the outstretched hand of the keeper.

Emily Schall gave the Pride (10-2 overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) a one-goal lead in the 26th minute, when she headed in a corner kick from Lexi Slusher.

Coming out of the break with one shot attempt, Lycoming finished with eight, led by two from both Sarracco and Gilmore.

In net, sophomore Jess Riordan (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) made six saves, with Ashton Houbary making two stops for the Pride.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2:30 p.m., when they head to 13th-ranked Arcadia University for a MAC Commonwealth game.
