Warriors fall to league-leading Mustangs

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite a gritty effort that included outdigging MAC Commonwealth-leading Stevenson University, the Lycoming College volleyball team fell, 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-18), on Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 26, at Lamade Gym.
 
Junior Kiannah Titus (Clay, N.Y./Baldwinsville) finished with eight kills, eight digs and two aces to lead the Warriors (15-12 overall, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) and junior Elle Jednorski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) added seven kills. Freshman Elizabeth Kelson (Denville, N.J./Morris Catholic) had six kills and two blocks and senior Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added four kills.
 
The defense, which had 32 digs to the Mustangs' 30, was paced by nine digs from senior libero Lindsay Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) and 24 assists and seven digs from senior Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North). Senior Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) added four digs and two aces.
 
The Warriors jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second set after a kill by Jednorski and led 20-13, but Stevenson stormed back to close within a point at 22-21. After a pair of Stevenson attack errors, the Warriors took a 24-21 lead, but Stevenson won the last five points of the set to close out a 26-24 win.
 
Stevenson (24-2 overall, 6-0 MAC Commonwealth) held Lycoming to a -.097 hitting percentage in a 25-16 first-set win and hit .440 in the third set to post a 25-18 win.
 
Stevenson hit .326 (39-10-89) in the match and was paced by 12 kills, five digs and three blocks from Katie Leftridge. Caroline Dangel posted 16 assists, Kayla Vaeth notched 10 digs and three aces and Victoria Prokic had four blocks.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Oct. 29, when they head to Lebanon Valley for a 7 p.m. match to wrap up MAC Commonwealth regular season play.
