Warriors fall victim to hot shooting Blazers

Frederick, Md. – Sophomore Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) scored a career-high 23 points and the Lycoming College men's basketball team knocked down a season-high 15 3-pointers, but a hot-shooting effort by Hood College helped them post an 87-68 MAC Commonwealth victory on Saturday, Jan. 12 at BB&T Arena.

The Warriors (7-10 overall, 1-7 MAC Commonwealth) closed out the first half on a 10-0 run and opened up the second period on a 17-3 run to cut what was a 31-point deficit, to 50-40 with 14:16 left. Dangerfield scored 15 points over the course of both runs and the Warriors shot 8-of-15 from three.

A perfect trip from the line at the 10-minute mark from Fidelis closed the gap to six. The Blazers (10-6 overall, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) responded with a 14-4 run over the next four minutes to lead, 71-55. The Warriors continued to shoot well from three, connecting on 3-of-6 over the game's final six minutes, but they could not get back within single digits.

The Warriors hit 44 percent (10-of-23) of their threes and 91 percent (11-of-12) of their foul shots in the second half.

Dangerfield netted a career-high six 3-pointers, shooting 8-of-19 from the floor to make up his 23 points. Freshman Markanthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha Catholic) scored 18 points and pulled in four rebounds. Senior Calvin Chandler (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) added 15 points and eight boards and freshman Matt Ilodigwe (Wilmington, Del./Concord) finished with 10 points.

The Blazers shot 58 percent (18-of-31) in the first half to head into the break holding a 44-23 advantage. Hood started the game on an 18-2 run before Fidelis knocked down a 3-pointer with 12:17 remaining. The Blazers built their lead to 44-13 with 2:19 to go, however, a jumper by Dangerfield ignited the Warriors on a 10-0 run to end the period.

The Blazers were led by a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds from Michael Riley. Evan Wang scored 17 points and had a game-high six assists.

The Warriors remain on the road when they travel to Arcadia University on Saturday, Jan. 19, for a MAC Commonwealth contest at 2 p.m. in the Alumni Gymnasium.
