Warriors win MAC Commonwealth opener at Albright

READING, Pa. – Two first-half goals from freshmen helped the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory in its MAC Commonwealth opener at Albright College on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.

The Warriors (8-1-1 overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth), winners of six straight, got on the board first when senior Jake Webb (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) recorded his team-leading fifth assist of the season, sending a perfectly placed corner kick into the box to Colin Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area), who headed the ball past the keeper, for his third goal of the season.

The Warriors extended their lead in the 41st minute when Tolu Iluyomade (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) scored his second goal of the season off a penalty kick, beating the keeper to the bottom right corner of the net.

The Warriors high-pressure defense did not allow a shot on goal, as Albright (2-6-1 overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) took just two in the game. Senior Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) started and played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Warriors and freshman Zack Donoway (Newark, Md./Snow Hill) finished the game to keep the shutout. Billy Mullen was credited with two saves for the Lions.

The Warriors are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m., when they host Moravian in a non-conference game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
