WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A balanced offensive attack coupled with another impressive defensive effort helped the Lycoming College volleyball team post a 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17) MAC Commonwealth win against Hood College on Wednesday night, Sept. 19, at Lamade Gym.
Senior
Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) notched 26 digs to lead the defense, which posted 72 digs while the offense held Hood to just 50. Junior
Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) added double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs, while also posting seven kills, and freshman
Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) notched eight kills and nine digs.
The Warrior offense hit .268 (51-18-123) while holding the Blazers to just .187 (50-22-150), with six players notching at least eight kills, led by 12 kills and a .500
hitting percentage by sophomore
Elle Jednorski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston). Junior
Katie Hausknecht (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) had nine kills and a match-high five blocks and sophomore
Lilly Singleton (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) added eight kills and seven digs. Junior
Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) also added seven kills, seven digs and four blocks.
The Warriors (8-4 overall, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) hit .290 in the opening set, while Hood hit just .111 and notched eight errors. Hood (6-6 overall, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth) hit .433 in the second set to get past the Warriors, but Lycoming rebounded by holding Hood to just .133 in the last two sets while Lycoming committed just eight errors. Jednorski led the way with four kills in the third set, while five players notched a kill, and in the fourth set, King led the way with five kills in nine swings.
Elena Zinaich led the Blazers with 20 kills, hitting .450, and Courtney Hutchinson posted 14 kills. Payton Belella added 43 assists and 10 digs and Renee Reus posted a team-best 16 digs.
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Sept. 22, when they head to Stevenson for a tri-match, facing the Mustangs at 1 p.m., in a MAC Commonwealth match before facing Washington (Md.) at 3 p.m.
