Warriors split at Montclair tri-match

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Senior Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) crossed 1,750 digs and junior Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) became the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career assists as the Lycoming College volleyball team split a pair of matches, falling to Montclair State, 3-2 (25-15, 25-15, 23-25, 19-25, 15-11), before coming back to down FDU-Florham, 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-9), in a tri-match at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 15.
 
Against FDU-Florham (3-8 overall), the Warriors (7-4 overall) heated up after hitting .075 in the first set, using a dominant defensive effort that held the Devils to just -.057 hitting in the final three sets to post a 3-1 win.
 
Hepner led the defensive effort with 28 digs, while freshman Angie King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) added seven kills, two aces, 15 digs and two blocks. Both junior Lindsay Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown Community) and Morris each had nine digs.
 
Offensively, the Warriors were led by 15 kills and a .314 hitting percentage from sophomore Lilly Singleton (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) and 10 kills and six blocks from sophomore Elle Jednorski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston). Junior Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added eight kills and five digs.
 
Morris finished with 31 assists, five kills and a block and freshman Abigail Harney (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) posted 11 assists and three digs.
 
Against Montclair State (5-4 overall), four Warriors finished with double-figure kills, as it came back from two sets down to force a fifth set before narrowly falling in a fifth-set nail-biter, 15-11.
 
King led the Warrior attack with 13 kills and nine digs, while McDevitt added 11 kills, hitting .318. Jednorski posted 10 kills and five blocks and Singleton also had 10 kills.
 
Morris finished with 51 assists, three aces, 13 digs and four blocks as she crossed 1,000 assists in the match, finishing the day with 1,040. Hepner posted 20 digs and two aces, becoming the second player in school history to reach 1,750 digs in the process. Freshman Alia Post (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area) also added nine digs.
 
Carly Waterman led Montclair State with 13 kills, five digs and two blocks and Leah Higgins had 12 kills and an ace. Ashley Griffith finished with 28 assists and 16 digs and Alexandra Campos posted 19 digs. Jillian Wilson also posted five blocks.
 
The Warriors get back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, when they host Hood on Saturday, Sept. 19, in a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match.
