Warriors edged by River Hawks in opener

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Facing off a team that made the NCAA Tournament in 2017, the Lycoming College women's soccer team, brimming with 16 freshmen, dropped a 1-0 decision to Susquehanna University on Friday night, Aug. 31, at Sassafras Field.
 
Senior Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) stopped eight shots in net for the Warriors (0-1 overall), as the River Hawks (1-0 overall) were credited with 22 shots.
 
The lone goal came in the 49th minute, when Kate Cantrell headed in a give from Emily Lefkowitz.

Freshmen Alicia Blizzard (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), Elin Johansson (Göteborg, Sweden/Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.)) and Kailey Coelho (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) each had a shot for Lycoming.
 
Madi Welliver earned the win in goal for the River Hawks.
 
The Warriors open their home slate on Saturday, Sept. 1, when they host Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference power Mount Aloysius at 1 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
