Warriors fall to 13th-ranked Falcons

GRANTHAM, Pa. – Junior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) notched her fifth straight hat trick and moved into sole possession of second on the program's all-time goals scored list, but the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team fell to 13th-ranked Messiah College, 17-7, on Saturday afternoon, April 7, at the Starry Athletic Complex in MAC Commonwealth action.
 
McGinniss and senior teammate Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) were tied heading into the game for second most goals in program history with 177, but McGinniss' three goals gave her 180 for her career. Sophomore Hailey Kimble (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) scored twice and sophomore Kayla DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) and Lazarich, who sits just two points away from 250 in her career, each scored. DiJoseph added two assists and Kimble tallied one.
 
The Warriors (4-7 overall, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) fell behind 11-1 late in the first half before rallying with two quick scores from DiJoseph and McGinniss to get within eight. The Falcons (8-3 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) extended their lead to double-digits again, before Lazarich and McGinniss scored two straight late in the game.
 
Junior defender Kim Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) caused four turnovers and picked up three groundballs and McGinniss earned six draw controls and picked up two groundballs. Junior Sara Rockey (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) also picked up two groundballs for the Warriors.
 
Madi Morris and Annika Johnson each scored three times for Messiah while Courtney Wagner, Jamie Bishop, Abbi Munson and Katelyn Pearson each scored twice.
 
Sophomore Bailey Parchesky (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) notched six saves in 40 minutes and Ayana Hagan (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP College Prep) made five saves in 20 minutes.
 
Amber Orner and Jessie Lissner each played 30 minutes with Lissner making five saves and Orner making one for Messiah.
 
The Warriors return to action on Wednesday, April 11, when they head to Stevenson University for a MAC Commonwealth game at 7 p.m.
