OWING MILLS, Md. – Senior
Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) became just the third player in program history to notch 250 points in a career, but the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team fell to 2017 MAC Commonwealth runner-up Stevenson University, 22-16, Wednesday night, April 11, at Mustang Stadium in conference action.
Lazarich finished with six goals, giving her 254 career points and moving her into second in program history and 24 points from the school record of 278 set by Megan Wallenhorst '08. Sophomore
Hailey Kimble (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) totaled four goals and an assist and junior
Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) tallied three goals and two assists for her sixth straight hat trick and added nine draw controls. Junior
Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York Area) posted three points with a goal and two assists.
The Warriors (4-8 overall, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) fell behind 2-0, before Lazarich answered with her 42
nd goal of the season. The team's traded goals before Lycoming tallied three straight scores to take a 5-4 lead. Freshman
Taylor Herberger (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) posted the game-tying goal and 11 seconds later, after earning the draw control and sprinting 40 yards, Lazarich scored the go-ahead goal and her 250
th career point.
Stevenson answered four minutes later with a man-up goal to tie the game, but Lazarich again answered off a great lofting pass from senior
Caroline Mitchell (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) to give the Warriors another one-goal advantage and give her the hat trick. The team's traded blows again over the next few minutes with McGinniss scoring a go-ahead goal at 7-6 before Peti and Lazarich scored game-tying goals, but Stevenson scored the first half's final four goals to take a four-goal advantage into the half.
The Mustangs continued their scoring run into the second half, scoring five of the half's first six goals to take an 18-10 lead. Lycoming scored two of the next three goals, one by Lazarich after winning the draw control, and one by McGinniss on a free-position opportunity to notch her second goal of the game and 48
th of the season. That was as close as Lycoming could get until it scored three of the final four goals of the game to cut the deficit to six.
Carly Bowes, Hana Tankersley and Kiely Bunce each scored four goals apiece for Stevenson.
Sophomore
Bailey Parchesky (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) made a career-best 13 saves for the Warriors, while Mack Ferguson earned the win for Stevenson, making nine saves, and Jess Larose faced a shot in the final 30 seconds of action.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, April 14, when they host Widener University in a MAC Commonwealth game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
