Summerson reaches milestone in win over Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Sophomore Hannah Summerson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, giving her a program-record 15 singles wins on the season to lead the Lycoming College women's tennis team to a conference tournament-clinching 8-1 MAC Commonwealth win over Hood College on Saturday afternoon, April 28, at the Hood Tennis Complex.

By virtue of winning the most individual matches in the duals between Arcadia and Stevenson, the Warriors (10-7 overall, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) enter the conference tournament as the third seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship, heading to No. 2 Lebanon Valley College for the second straight year in the conference semifinals on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Top-seeded Messiah will face No. 4 seed Arcadia in the other semifinal.

After teaming up with sophomore Devinity Apollon (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) at No. 1 doubles for an 8-5 win, Summerson earned her 15th singles win of the season and 29th of her career with the 6-3, 6-3 decision at her No. 2 slot. She broke a four-way tie for the top spot in the single-season record book with herself after going 14-6 as a freshman and Cricket Temple, who won 14 matches in both 1999 and 2000.

With her 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, senior Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) moved into third place in program history with 39 career singles wins. Hallabuk also earned a 9-8 (2) No. 2 doubles win with sophomore partner Julia Nagle (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area).

Apollon also earned another win with her 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, giving her 11 on the season. Junior Brittany Lenze (St. Mary's Pa./Elk County Catholic) earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. The team also picked up wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles by forfeit.

Hood fell to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
