Liz Nace (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) retired 24 of the final 25 batters and sophomore
Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Lycoming College softball team to a 3-2 win over Penn College to wrap up a sweep of a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon, April 26, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex. The Warriors won the opener, 7-2.

After giving up three straight singles to start the game as Penn College took a 2-0 first-inning lead, Nace retired the next 19 batters and the one baserunner allowed was her lone walk in the top of the seventh. The junior righthander won her fifth game of the season and her third straight as the Warriors (12-22 overall) have won five straight and swept the last two doubleheaders.

In the top of the eighth, with a Penn College (11-19 overall) runner placed on second due to the international tiebreaker rule, freshman
Taylor Gessner (Lewisburg, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) laid out down the third baseline on a sacrifice bunt attempt to get the first out. Then, Tiana McCormick flied out to center field with senior
Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) sprinting in for the out before throwing to second base for the double play.

In the bottom of the eighth, Schoenstadt was placed on second, senior
Rachael Shady's (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) moved her over to third and Warriner bounced a first-pitch single through the left side for the walkoff win. With a run scored in the first game and the game-winner in the nightcap, Schoenstadt has scored 87 runs in her career, second most in program history and just four from tying Amy Cline's record mark set from 2010-13.

Lycoming came back from an early 2-0 deficit and tied the game in the bottom of third. Sophomore
Lydia Yorks (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) led off with a single up the middle, then stole second with one out. Nace walked and sophomore
Madison Brown (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) singled to load the bases. Yorks scored on a passed ball and after Schoenstadt walked, Nace scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

Brown went 2-for-4 in the win, Nace was 1-for-2 with a run and Yorks was 1-for-3 with a run. Warriner went 1-for-4 with an RBI at the plate while Gessner and Shady each extended their hitting streaks to six games. Shady's hit was the 120
th of her career, third most in program history.

Kassie Winters pitched 7 1/3 innings in the loss, striking out three and allowing just one earned run.

Alyssa Gentile went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Chelsea Gray had a sacrifice fly for the Wildcats.

In the opener, Shady threw three perfect innings to start the game and pitched all seven innings, giving up just five hits and she didn't allow an earned run. She struck out three.

The Warriors scored all seven runs after the second inning, including four in the bottom of the fourth.Â

Brown singled in Yorks in the third to start the scoring before Lycoming broke the game open in the fourth. Shady led off with a bunt single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a wild pitch. She scored on junior
Cayla Treaster's (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) single to left center. Junior
Rachel Duda (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) followed with a single and senior
Samantha Fischer (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) walked. Yorks' reached on an error and scored both Duda and Treaster. The final run of the inning came when Fischer scored on a wild pitch.

The Warriors added a run in the fifth on Shady's RBI single and in the sixth when Gessner doubled in Fischer.

Gessner and Shady each went 2-for-3 while Gessner added an RBI and Shady had a run and an RBI. Brown was 1-for-3 with an RBI as was Treaster.

Taylor Krow led Penn College at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort.

Morgan Heritage pitched five innings, earning the loss, and Kassidy Svenson pitched the final inning.

The Warriors return to action on Saturday, April 28, for Senior Day when they host Stevenson University in their final MAC Commonwealth matchup of the season at the Shangraw Athletic Complex with the doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. start.
