Summerson ties singles mark against Alvernia

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Hannah Summerson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) tied the school's season singles wins record with her 14th win of the year to help the Lycoming College women's tennis team, which won five of seven contested matches in a 7-2 MAC Commonwealth win over Alvernia University on Saturday, April 21, at Bruce Henry Park.

Summerson improved to 14-6 on the year, her exact record in 2016-17 when she first tied the school record of 14 wins set by Cricket Temple during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. She defeated Alvernia's Amanda Phillips, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles.

The Warriors improved to 9-7 overall and 3-3 in the MAC Commonwealth to take a .5-match lead on Arcadia for the fourth and final conference tournament slot with one regular-season match remaining.

Lycoming took an early lead with a forfeit win at No. 3 doubles before senior Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) and sophomore Julia Nagle (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) posted an 8-6 win over Leah Kemper and Alivia Lopez at No. 2 doubles.

After a forfeit win at No. 6 singles, junior Brittany Lenze (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Maria Figurelli at No. 5 and Hallabuk clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lopez at No. 3 for her 38th career singles win, which is tied for third in program history.

Sophomore Devinity Apollon (Washington DC/School Without Walls) added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cassandra Noray at No. 1 singles for her 10th win of the season before Summerson's win rounded out Lycoming's scoring.

Alvernia fell to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the MAC Commonwealth.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, April 28, when they head to Hood College for a 1 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match to wrap up the regular season.
