Warriors rout Brooklyn on last day in Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Using 15 hits and 13 walks to score 19 runs, the Lycoming College softball team opened its final day in Myrtle Beach with a 19-3 five-inning win over Brooklyn College before falling to Frostburg, 3-0, to wrap up its Southern swing on Friday, March 16, at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
 
Senior Rachel Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) had four hits in the pair of games to become the 13th player in school history to reach 100 career hits. She added a double, four runs and three RBI.
 
Scoring a run in every inning, the Warriors (3-5 overall) added a five-run first, eight-run third and four-run fourth to post a 19-2 five-inning win over Brooklyn (0-3 overall) in the Friday morning opener.
 
Senior Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) went 3-for-3 with a double, four runs and three RBI and sophomore Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs and two RBI. Junior Lexie Kovin (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) also notched three hits and two RBI and sophomore Madison Brown (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) posted two hits, two runs and three RBI. Sophomore Lydia Yorks (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) added two hits and two runs, as Lycoming cranked out 15 hits and benefitted from 13 walks and three hit batters.
 
Freshman Meghan Crosby (Lykens, Pa./Upper Dauphin Area) added a triple, two runs scored and an RBI and senior Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) added a hit and two runs.
 
Junior Cayla Treaster (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville) (2-0) tossed the complete game, allowing two hits, an earned run and four walks. She struck out five. Brittany Lay (0-2) took the loss, allowing 15 hits and 15 earned runs. She struck out six.
 
Lay went 1-for-1 with a double and walk and Nicole Boudouriss added a double and two RBI for Brooklyn.
 
Frostburg (8-4 overall) used a three-run fifth inning to get past the Warriors in the nightcap, 3-0.
 
Katelyn Mehrling (2-0) tossed a complete-game three-hitter for the Bobcats, striking out five and walking none in the pitchers' duel. Shady (0-4) matched her with zeroes in all but one frame, allowing seven hits and a walk in the hard-luck loss. She struck out seven.
 
Shady led off the bottom of the first with an infield single for her 100th career hit. She was left stranded at second, as only three runners reached scoring position in the game.
 
Frostburg was aided in the fifth inning by a double from Claire Hanlon, and got the benefit of a close play at home plate to score its first run before a pair of infield singles scored two more runs.
 
Sam Garron had two hits and triple and Taylor McCarty notched two hits, a double and a run for the Bobcats.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, March 20, when they host Wilkes in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
