Warriors split on third day in Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Cayla Treaster (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville) threw a complete game shutout in her first start of the season and added two RBIs at the plate, helping lift the Lycoming College softball team to a split on the third day of the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic, as Lycoming posted an 11-0 five-inning win over Alfred State after opening the day with a 3-2 setback to Gettysburg on Thursday, March 15, at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.

Treaster struck out four, including the final out, and walked just two in her first career complete game. Senior Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) and freshman Meghan Crosby (Lykens, Pa./Upper Dauphin Area) each picked up a hit and two RBIs while Schoenstadt also scored two runs.

The Warriors (2-4 overall) scored multiple runs in every inning and jumped out to a quick start, leading 2-0 after the first. Senior Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) led off with a walk before advancing to third on two wild pitches. She eventually scored on a passed ball and sophomore Madison Brown (McElhattan, Pa./Lock Haven), after reaching on a walk, scored on Schoenstadt's RBI groundout.

Lycoming added two more runs in the second. Sophomore Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) reached on a walk and scored after a sacrifice bunt from Crosby and a wild pitch. Sophomore Lydia Yorks' (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) RBI groundout scored junior Lexie Kovin (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) to make it 4-0.

Warriner's RBI triple scored Schoenstadt and her run was sandwiched between two RBI groundouts from Treaster and Crosby for a 7-0 Lycoming advantage in the third inning.

The Warriors put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with four more runs. Schoenstadt and Treaster each were walked with the bases loaded for two runs before Crosby delivered a RBI single to left field and Schoenstadt scored on a wild pitch to finish off the scoring.

Shady went 1-for-1 with two runs and two walks, Brown scored three times, Yorks went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI and Warriner was 1-for-2 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

In the opening game against Gettysburg, the Warriors fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning before tying the game up in the top of the fifth. After an out, Brown singled before Schoenstadt laced a first-pitch triple to right-center field that scored Brown. Schoenstadt scored on a throwing error to tie the game at two. In the bottom of the six, though, Gettysburg took advantage of a pair of hits and an error to score a single run to make it 3-2.

Shady (0-3) gave up two earned runs in the complete game while striking out two and allowing just one walk. Morgan Clauser earned the complete-game win for the Bullets, striking out 10.

Treaster led the Warrior offense, going 2-for-4, while Schoenstadt had a triple and run. Gessner and Brown notched the other hits. Wendy Folfas and Julie Rachel led the Bullets, each posting two hits, a run and RBI.

The Warriors return to action on the final day of the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic on Friday, March 16, when they take on Brooklyn at 9:30 a.m. and Frostburg State at 11:30 a.m. at the Sports Complex.
