Warriors fall twice in Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The top four batters in the lineup accounted for seven runs and six hits and junior Rachel Duda (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) drove in three runs, but the Lycoming College softball team fell to a late rally by Rutgers-Camden, 9-8, after opening the day with a 6-1 setback against Emory & Henry, at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex on Wednesday, March 14.
 
Duda went 2-for-3 with a run, a double and three RBI against the Scarlet Raptors (5-2 overall), but they used a five-run seventh-inning rally to walk off with a 9-8 win.
 
Senior Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) went 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs and a RBI for the Warriors (1-3 overall), sophomore Madison Brown (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) added two runs and a hit and senior Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
 
The Warriors got on the board with a three-run first inning, as Shady led off with a single up the middle. After a sac bunt, Shady moved to third on a wild pitch before walks by Brown and Schoenstady loaded the bases. Junior Cayla Treaster (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville) followed with a double down the right field line to score two runs before another walk loaded the bases for Duda, who walked ina  run.
 
In the second inning, Shady reached on an error before taking second on a sac bunt. After a walk, Schoenstadt reached on a single to short, where Shady came around to score. A fielder's choice and an error brought Schoenstadt around to score. In the third, Duda led off with a double before scoring on a two-out triple by Shady, making it 6-0.
 
The Warriors added two more runs in the fourth, as Brown and Schoenstadt led off with singles. A walk loaded the bases and with one out, Duda singled up the middle to score two runs.
 
The Scarlet Raptors cut into the deficit with four runs in the fourth and capped the comeback in the seventh with five runs, with Nina Arroyo hitting the third single of the inning that hit a piece of the pitcher's glove to cap the rally.
 
Mackenzie Mason went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, Pfister went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI and Arroyo also had two hits and two RBI.
 
Junior Liz Nace (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) (1-1) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs and striking out four in 6 1/3 innings. Kendra Pfister earned the win (3-2), allowing three hits and one run in four innings. She walked two and struck out the same.
 
In the first game against Emory & Henry (12-2 overall), the Warriors fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first, before countering with their lone run in the top of the second. Treaster led off with a walk and sophomore Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) reached second on an error and Treaster scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.
 
Brown and Schoenstadt each had a hit for the Warriors.
 
Shady struck out two in the complete game. Alex Braun gave up two hits and struck out 12 for the Wasps.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, March 14, when they face Gettysburg at 9:30 a.m. and Alfred State at 11:30 a.m. at the Sports Complex.
