NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior
Liz Nace (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) threw a four-hit shutout in her first start of the 2018 season, helping the Lycoming College softball team to a split in its first day of the season, as Lycoming posted an 8-0 win over Spalding in the afternoon after falling to Wesley, 7-2, in the morning on Tuesday, March 13, at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.

Senior
Rachael Shady (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) had two hits, including a walkoff two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning, to lead the Warrior offense, which had eighth hits in a five-inning win over Spalding.

Freshman
Taylor Gessner (Lewisburg, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) singled to get Lycoming's offense started in the first inning before walks by sophomore
Madison Brown (McElhattan, Pa./Central Mountain) and senior
Ashley Schoenstadt (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) loaded the bases. Junior
Cayla Treaster (Williamsport, Pa./Montoursville Area) followed with a single that scored two runs, while an error allowed Schoenstadt to circle and score.

In the fifth, the Warriors rallied with five runs to clinch the run-rule win. Schoenstadt reached on an error before Treaster walked. After a strikeout, Nace delivered a two-RBI single to center field. Junior
Lexie Kovin (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and sophomore
Lydia Yorks (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) each singled, driving in another run to make it 6-0 before Shady delivered a double to left to score two runs and end the game.

Nace (1-0) kept the Golden Eagles at bay, allowing just one runner to reach third base while scattering four hits through her first innings in the circle. She retired six in a row at one point and allowed two base runners in an inning just once. She struck out two in the complete game.

Yorks went 2-for-3 with a  run and RBI and Schoenstadt scored twice for Lycoming.

Olivia Carter (0-2) took the loss for Spalding, allowing eight hits and six earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. She walked five and struck out five.

After Lycoming tied the game at two in the bottom of the fifth inning, Wesley College (5-2 overall) scored five runs in the top of the sixth to post a 7-2 win in Lycoming's season opener.

After falling behind by two, the Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to knot the game. Treaster got the offense started with a one-out double to left center in the fourth. She advanced to third a couple pitches later on a passed ball. Sophomore
Darci Warriner (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) got the Warriors on the board with a single past a diving second baseman.

Shady stranded two Wesley runners on base with one out in the top half of the fifth before the Warriors tied the game. Shady led off the bottom half of the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Gessner. After a passed ball, Shady scored on an RBI groundout from Brown.

In the top of the sixth inning, though, Wesley scored five runs to put the game away, with Ashley Royer notching a two-RBI base hit with the bases loaded to key the rally.

Treaster had two of the Warriors' five hits, going 2-for3 with a double and a run scored. Warriner, Gessner and Fisher had the other three hits for Lycoming.

Shady (0-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings of five-hit ball and gave up three earned runs while striking out seven. Nace struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Amanda Curry led Wesley at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, March 14, facing Emory & Henry at 1:30 p.m. and Rutgers-Camden at 5:30 p.m. at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
