Warriors fly past the Dutchmen, 63-54

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore D'Yante Doughty (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) had a game-high 21 points to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team to a 63-54 victory against MAC Commonwealth opponent Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday night, Dec. 4 at Sorrentino Gymnasium.

The Warriors (5-3 overall, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth), who lead the conference in steals, caused 15 Lebanon Valley turnovers and won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Flying Dutchman (2-6 overall, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth), 38-33.

After only shooting 2-of-13 from three in the first half, the Warriors kept firing from deep and were able to connect on seven 3-point field goals in the last 20 minutes, while Lebanon Valley only hit one. Doughty shot 8-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from deep and freshman Markanthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha Catholic) scored nine second-half points, adding three 3-pointers of his own.

Coming out of the break sporting a 31-25 lead, the Warriors gave up six straight points to the Flying Dutchman before Fidelis knocked down a three to stop the run. Lebanon Valley kept the Warriors at bay for the next 7:44, but an acrobatic three-point play by junior Devon Taylor (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) sparked an 8-2 run gave the Warriors a 55-45 lead with 7:06 remaining. The Flying Dutchman closed the game to 60-54 with a little more than two minutes remaining, but a three by Doughty salted away the game.

Sophomore Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Tech) was the second Warrior in double-figures finishing with 12. Senior Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) provided a spark off the bench, netting a career-high six points and seven rebounds. Senior Darius James (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and senior Calvin Chandler (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) added nine rebounds. Taylor had seven points and three takeaways.

After a slow start from both teams, a layup by Doughty gave the Warriors their first lead, 4-2, at the 15-minute mark. The Flying Dutchmen built a 12-6 lead over the next three minutes, before a 3-pointer by Logan and a 3-point play by Taylor sparked a 15-3 Lycoming run. The Warriors closed out the half outscoring Lebanon Valley, 25-15.

Jordan Abdo led the Flying Dutchman with 13 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Chris Anderson added 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Warriors are back on the court on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m., when they host MAC Commonwealth opponent Arcadia University at the Lamade Gymnasium.
