Warrior defense shuts down regionally-ranked Lebanon Valley, 1-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman defender Colin Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute and senior Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) notched a seven-save shutout to lead the 24th-ranked Lycoming College men's soccer team past regionally-ranked Lebanon Valley, 1-0, in MAC Commonwealth action on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 23, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

The Warriors (14-2-1 overall, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) have won 12 of their last 13 games, securing the No. 2 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championship and will get the opportunity to host a semifinal game on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex against Lebanon Valley (9-5-1 overall, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth), who clinched the No. 3 seed despite the loss.

Sophomore Jared Moses (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh School) was able to create space from his defender and sent a high pass into the box to freshman Tyler Flood (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), who won possession and pushed a header to Wieand, who fired a laser from 20 yards out past the keeper for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Playing a man down for the majority of the second half, the Warriors were able to keep constant pressure on the Flying Dutchmen, outshooting them 20-13, with 13 of those shots coming in the second period.  Moses, a defensive midfielder, led the Warrior attack and finished with a career-high four shots.

Solecki tallied his eighth shutout of the season while racking up seven saves, which included back-to-back saves off a penalty kick in the eighth minute to keep the shutout in place.

Sean Quirk had six saves in 90 minutes of action for the Flying Dutchmen.

The Warriors will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27 when they head to Frederick, Md. to take on MAC Commonwealth opponent Hood, for a 12 p.m. kickoff.
