Warriors fall to Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Alicia Blizzard (Lebanon, Pa./Wallenpaupack) scored in the second half to lead the Lycoming College women's soccer team in a 3-1 defeat at MAC Commonwealth opponent Widener University on Saturday evening, Oct. 13, at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
 
The Warriors (1-13 overall, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) scored their goal in the 89th minute when Blizzard beat the keeper with a header off a corner kick from freshman Elin Johansson (Göteborg, Sweden / Shattuck-St. Mary's (Minn.)). The goal was the first of Blizzard's career and gave Johansson her team-leading fifth assist.
 
The Pride (5-5-2 overall, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) scored all of their goals in the first half, with Alyssa Dionisio scoring once and Amanda Roberts twice.
 
Senior Helen Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) finished with seven saves for the Warriors. Sabath Delaney posted three saves for the Pride.
 
The Warriors are  back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 16, for a 7 p.m., start when they head to Grantham, Pa., to take on second-ranked Messiah at Shoemaker Field in MAC Commonwealth action.
