CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Morgan Mader (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter and the Lycoming College women's basketball team used a 10-point fourth-quarter advantage to defeat Widener University, 64-49, on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 27, at the Schwartz Athletic Center in MAC Commonwealth action.

It was the fourth time in five games Mader hit double figures, as she added six rebounds and a steal with no turnovers. Sophomore Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) added 12 points, four assists and four steals.

After Widener got within five to end the third quarter, Mader scored six of the Warriors' first 10 points in the opening four minutes of the final quarter to give her team a 12-point lead. The Pride got within nine with a little over two minutes remaining but a 3-pointer from Mader gave the Warriors (14-5 overall, 9-3 MAC Commonwealth) a 12-point lead. She then hit 3-of-4 free throws in the final 1:42 to put the game out of reach.

The Warriors got out to a hot-shooting start in the first quarter, as they hit 5-of-8 3-pointers and led 26-13 after the opening period. Four different players hit a shot from behind the arc in the first quarter, including junior Becca Painter (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), who hit two. The 13-point lead grew to 15 with 5:04 remaining in the second on a jumper from sophomore Hailey Dayton (Reisterstown, Md./St. Timothy's) to make it 30-15.

Widener closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to go into halftime down 30-24. The Pride then closed within 30-27 early in the second half, but the Warriors countered with a 9-2 run, capped by an old fashioned three-point play from senior Shelby Mueller (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) to give them another double-digit lead at 41-31.

Painter totaled nine points and six rebounds and Mueller notched eight points, nine rebounds and two blocks. With 1,171 career points, Mueller passed Julia Antonelli for fifth most in program history. Dayton came off the bench to score seven points with four steals and three assists for Lycoming.

Lycoming forced 20 turnovers and used 10 steals to lead to 17 points off turnovers and six fast break points.

Devan Rimmer led Widener (9-10 overall, 3-7 MAC Commonwealth) with 16 points and six rebounds and Allison Gallagher added eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Warriors return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. when they host Alvernia University at Lamade Gym.
