Five Warriors in double figures in 72-56 win over Arcadia

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A balanced and efficient scoring that included five Lycoming College women's basketball players finishing in double figures helped the team notch a 72-56 win at Arcadia University in MAC Commonwealth action at Lamade Gym on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 13.
 
The Warriors (12-4 overall, 6-2 MAC Commonwealth) were led by 14 points and three 3-pointers from sophomore Morgan Mader (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), as she helped the team shoot 48 percent (28-of-59) in the game and 58 percent (15-of-26) in the second half.
 
Freshman Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) posted a career-high 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks, junior Becca Painter (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) added 11 points, four rebounds and three steals, sophomore Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) finished with 10 points, five assists and two steals and senior Shelby Mueller (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Lycoming led for 38 minutes in the contest, taking its first lead at 4-2 with 8:07 left in the first quarter on a layup from Painter, which was a part of an 8-2 run that gave the team an 8-4 advantage. The Knights (7-8 overall, 2-5 MAC Commonwealth) closed the gap to two points at 10-8, but Lycoming scored five in a row, with a 3-pointer from senior Haley Sipple (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) making it 15-8 with 1:16 left in the opening quarter.
 
Arcadia used a 14-5 run to close within two points with at 22-20 with 5:40 left in the second uarter, but Lycoming got the next bucket, a layup from Lutz, and took a five-point lead into the break at 30-25. In the third quarter, the Warriors got the lead into double figures three times in the first half of the period, but each time, the Knights clawed back. Mader hit a 3-pointer with 3:31 left though to make it 49-39, and Lycoming never let the lead back into single digits, expanding it to as many as 18 in the fourth quarter at 65-47 off a pair of free throws from Mueller with 3:53 left.
 
Courtney Hoffman led the Knights with 13 points, two rebounds and three steals, Sydney Cyr added 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals and Camille Menns added 11 points and four assists.
 
Sipple also finished with nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Warriors.
 
The Warriors were able to open up its transition game, posting 10 points on the break, while it held a 23-18 advantage in points off turnover.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 20, when they host Hood at 1 p.m. in a MAC Commonwealth game at Lamade Gym.
