Warriors fall twice at Hood tri-match

FREDERICK, Md. – Junior Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) moved into a tie for sixth in school history with 1,312 career digs thanks to a 26-dig day, but the Lycoming College volleyball team fell to Stevenson University, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-21) and Hood College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-23) in a Middle Atlantic Conference tri-match at BB&T Arena on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 30.
 
Stevenson (17-1 overall, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) hit .333 (41-11-90) in the three-set win that opened the tri-match win, as the Mustangs were able to get around a 10-kill, two-block effort from freshman Kiannah Titus (Clay, N.Y./Baldwinsville). Titus hit .364 and had at least three kills in each set.
 
Sophomore Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added six kills and two blocks and sophomore Lilly Singleton (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Hepner led the team with nine digs. Senior Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) posted 12 assists and sophomore Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) added eight.
 
Annika Schwartz led the Mustangs with 15 kills, three aces and four digs and Moriah Savage added 10 kills and three blocks. Caroline Dangel led the team with 14 assists and Deanna Bradbury posted 11 digs and two aces.
 
Four Blazers finished with at least nine kills as it used a balanced effort in its 3-0 win, its first over the Warriors. Elena Zinaich led the team with 11 kills and two blocks and Courtney Hutchinson posted 10 kills, hitting .562.
 
Singleton led the Warriors with eight kills, seven digs and three aces and Titus added six kills and three blocks while McDevitt posted six kills and two blocks. Freshman Emily Konopka (Wrightstown, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) added four blocks and three kills and Hepner led the defense with 17 digs. Both Morris and Burger posted 13 assists.
 
Payton Belella led the Blazers (4-13 overall, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) with 34 assists and Kari Betson posted nine kills, 14 digs and two blocks. Zinaich and Renee Reuss each posted three aces.
 
The Warriors get back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, when they host Albright College in MAC Commonwealth action at 7 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
