GLASSBORO, N.J. – Senior Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) scored on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 84th minute to lift the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a dramatic 3-2 win over 17th-ranked Rowan University in the final round of the Gilmore Alumni Classic at Rowan University on Saturday evening, Sept. 2.
It's the Warriors (2-0) first win against a top 20 opponent since they defeated No. 19 Scranton on Sept. 17, 2016 and the team's sixth win over a top-25 opponent in head coach Nate Gibboney's five years as head coach. They also extracted some revenge on Rowan after falling to the Profs, 3-2, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex in the 2016 season opener.
Logan, scoring his first goal of the season and 25th of his career, now moves into eighth place on the program's all-time goals scored list with his game-winner. It's also his 13th game-winning goal of his career, moving him alone into second place in program history.
In a very physical game that saw a combined 42 fouls, five yellow cards and a red card, the Warriors prevailed thanks to three second-half goals. Lycoming took a1-0 lead at the 50:29 mark thanks to a penalty kick from senior Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield). It was Abdi's second goal of the season and 23rd of his career, as he became the eighth player in school history to reach 65 career points.
Rowan answered 13 minutes later on a cross from Ryan Campbell that Tyler Logar fired in for the equalizer. Less than two minutes later, junior Jake Webb (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic), a junior defender, scored his first career goal on a free kick from 30 yards out. Campbell tied the game up in the 78th minute for Rowan as he scored on a cross from Jake Connors.
Logan scored his goal on a free kick after a Rowan player drew a second yellow card, and after the fifth goal of the half, the Warriors didn't allow the Profs another shot.
Rowan outshot the Warriors 21-9, as junior goalkeeper Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) (2-0) made nine saves in the win while Rowan's Kyle Dennis made two saves.
Lycoming returns to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 4:30 p.m. when they host Susquehanna University in the annual Battle of the Boot at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
