WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With a four-goal outburst in the first half, the Lycoming College men's soccer team defeated Susquehanna University, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 6, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex, winning the Battle of the Boot for the third straight year by the largest margin in the trophy game's history.

Five different Warriors scored in the win, with seniors
Kyle Mizell (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and
Mateo Velasquez (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) leading the onslaught with a goal and an assist each.

The Warriors have won three straight Battle of the Boot games, the most consecutive wins in the series since Susquehanna took five straight from 2004-08. Susquehanna leads the series that dates back to 2001, 10-6-1.

Lycoming moved to 3-0 on the season, the program's first 3-0 start since 1998 when it won four straight to start its season.

Fresh off a MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week award, senior
Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) scored the Warriors' first goal, his third of the season, as he fired a shot at the goal that deflected into the net for the 1-0 advantage in the third minute. Just two minutes later, senior
Kyle Mizell (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) scored his third goal in two games against the Crusaders. Mizell scored his goal off a deflected shot from senior
Mateo Velasquez (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) as he fired in the rebound from 20 yards out. Velasquez added his own goal, his first of the season, when he drew a foul in the box and earned the penalty kick goal at 15:59.

Later in the first half at 37:54, sophomore
Tanner Fonjweng (Bear, Del./Glasgow) scored his first career goal off a throw in from
Lance Klingler (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg). The Warriors added another goal in the second half when senior
Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) scored his second goal of the season when Mizell dribbled down to the box and found a cutting Logan on the left side of the goal.

Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) made two saves in the first half while sophomore
Caleb Herrin (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) made a save in 42 minutes of second-half action and sophomore
Ryan Litterer (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) came in for the final three minutes to complete the shutout. Matt Ellingsworth made 10 saves in the loss for Susquehanna.

The Warriors return to action Saturday, Sept. 9, when they head to Carlisle to take on Dickinson in the first round of the Red Devil Classic at 12 p.m.
