Warriors fall in River Derby

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Given a couple quality chances, the Lycoming College women's soccer team couldn't capitalize, falling to Susquehanna University, 3-0, in the River Derby, a non-conference game between the two rivals at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon, Sept. 1.

The River Hawks (1-0 overall) got on the board in the 13th minute, as Gracelynn Jukes ran down the right side and crossed it into the box for Alyssa Bolger to kick in after the ball tipped off the Lycoming's keeper's gloves.

In the second half, the River Hawks scored twice in the first five minutes to put the game away. In the 53rd minute, Jukes had a chance for a goal, getting a chance the box, but senior goalkeeper Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) made a diving one-handed grab to prevent the goal.

Lycoming had a chance to find the scoreboard in the 72nd minute, when sophomore Mackaella Goodwin (Madison, N.J./Madison) headed a ball to the near post, but it was cleared away by a Susquehanna defender.

Lycoming finished with six shots, forcing Susquehanna keeper Julia Tolin to make three saves in the shutout. Susquehanna took 24 shots, with Winey stopping nine for the Warriors. Lycoming held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
