Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) and
Keenthy Yeboah (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) each scored to break a scoreless tie in the final half-hour, as the Lycoming College men's soccer team opened its 2017 campaign with a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Camden in the opening round of the Gilmore Alumni Classic at Rowan University on Friday evening, Sept. 1.

Abdi, who scored his 22
nd career goal, broke the tie when he took a low pass from senior
Duc Momo (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and beat the keeper to the lower right corner in the 60
th minute. Yeboah gave the team some breathing room in the 73
rd minute when he beat the goalkeeper to a loose ball in the box, firing in an easy opportunity for his first goal since 2015 after sitting out last season with an injury.

The Warriors (1-0 overall), who were facing the Scarlet Raptors (0-1 overall) for the first time since the Raptors posted a 4-0 win in the 2013 NCAA Tournament's second round, outshot the Raptors, 19-10, and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks, including 6-1 in the second half, as they picked up their pace of play to earn the 54
th win in head coach
Nate Gibboney's fifth year as head coach, tying him with Nels Phillips (1959-68, 1970-78) for third in school history in career victories.

Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) earned the shutout, making five stops for Lycoming. James Brett stopped six shots in the loss for Rutgers-Camden.
