WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Kevin Kerby scored 52 seconds into overtime to help lift Widener University to a narrow 10-9 win over the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team to knock Lycoming out of contention for a MAC Commonwealth Championship spot in the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon, April 29, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Down 9-7 in the third quarter, the Warriors (5-9 overall, 3-5 MAC Commonwealth) began a comeback with senior
Peter Pluta (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) finding freshman
Tyler Thompson (Napean, Ontario/Mother Teresa) for a score with 59 seconds left in the period. Early in the fourth, freshman
Shain Quigley (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford Area) rushed forward and hit a 10-yard shot into the right corner to tie the game.

Lycoming continued to pressure, even finding the back of the net when freshman
Billy Farrell (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) rushed in and made it to the edge of the crease before firing a shot in, but the goal was waved off and Farrell was ruled in the crease, setting up the dramatic finish in overtime.

Widener won the faceoff and took a shot that sophomore
Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) stopped, but Widener picked up a ground ball and Shane Taylor found Kerby for the game-winner.

Lycoming jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, with freshman
Richie Hurley (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scoring twice in a 30-second span to make with 8:24 left. Hurley added his third goal of the game with 2:58 left to give Lycoming a 4-1 lead.

After freshman
Aidan Kirkendall (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) scored with 6:08 left in the second quarter for his second man-up goal in the game to make it 5-3, Widener rallied to tie it with 4:39 left off a score from Chris Drake.

Lycoming took the lead back with two scores off gives from Thompson as the half wound down and Lycoming took a 7-5 advantage into the break.

Widener jumped out in the third quarter with four goals, scoring two man-up goals to build the 9-7 advantage before Lycoming began its comeback.

Hurley led the Warriors with four goals and an assist and Pluta finished with three assists, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Thompson added a goal and two assists and Kirkendall finished with two goals. Sophomore
Austin Arroyo (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) posted three ground balls, as did sophomore
Travis Rode (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon).

Brady Franks posted a goal and three assists and Taylor added a goal and two assists for the Pride. Chris Drake scored twice. Anthony Paone won 20-of-23 faceoffs and added 13 groundballs. John Ferguson added five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

In net, Tenant (5-9) stopped 10 shots for the Warriors and Matt Horton (8-7) stopped five shots for the Pride.
