Warriors soar past Elmira, 18-9

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and sophomore Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) each had five goals to lead the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team as it posted a run of 12 straight goals between halves to cruise to an 18-9 non-conference win against Elmira College on Wednesday afternoon, March 8, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
 
Lazarich also added two assists, nine draw controls and two ground balls and McGinniss posted an assist, seven draw controls and two ground balls for the Warriors (1-1 overall). The trio of freshman Kayla DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township), senior Leanne Shaw (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and junior Caroline Mitchell (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) each scored twice. Shaw also led the team with a game-high five ground balls.
 
Shaw got the Warriors on the board just 58 seconds into the game, but Elmira (0-1 overall) answered just 30 seconds later with a score from Kelsey Quail. The Warriors responded with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead.
 
The Soaring Eagles closed within 5-3 with 22:10 left in the first, but Lycoming took over from there with its 12-goal run, which lasted to the 21:34 mark of the second half when Lazarich found McGinniss for the second time to make it 17-3. Lazarich led the run with three goals and two assists and McGinniss also had two goals.
 
The Eagles closed the game on a 6-1 run, but couldn't close within 10 goals until the final 2:19 of the game.
 
Rachael Goetz led the Eagles with three goals and Quail added two goals, four ground balls and two assists. Mae Dinh notched two goals and four draw controls.
 
In net, senior Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) finished with three saves in the first half to earn the win before senior Casey Martindale (Davidsonville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added two stops in the second half for the Warriors. Lindsay Wargo had eight saves for the Eagles.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Monday, March 13, when they head to Buffalo State for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game.
