Lazarich reaches milestones against Cougars

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With five scores during Tuesday, March 21's game against Misericordia, junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) became the 13th player in the Lycoming College women's lacrosse program's history to reach 100 career goals, but Misericordia University was able to post a 17-8 non-conference win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Lazarich's season-high-tying five goals give her 102 in her career and also 153 career points, as she became the 11th player in school history to reach 150 career points in the game. Senior Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) also reached a milestone in the game, becoming the second goalie in program history to reach 400 career saves with her second of 11. Sophomore Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) picked up a season-high 10 draw controls, as she became the eighth player in program history to post 150 in a career.

Misericordia (3-2 overall) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the game's first eight minutes before Lazarich posted her 99th career goal with 18:53 left in the first half. The Cougars scored six more goals before the Warriors (2-3 overall) cut the lead to seven with five minutes left in the first half off a pair of free-position goals from McGinniss and the 100th career goal from Lazarich. However, Misericordia still took an 11-3 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Warriors were not able to cut into the gap, with Misericordia leading by as many as 12 before goals from freshman Kayla DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) and two from Lazarich helped the Warriors close the game with three straight to make it 17-8.

Lazarich added two draw controls and a caused turnover, as four of her five scores were free-position efforts. McGinniss scored twice, adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Olivia Garcia led the Cougars with three goals and four assists and Emily Connell added three goals and an assist. Kaila Quinlivan posted two goals, two assists and five draw controls and both Nicole Winter and Brianna Ladner had two caused turnovers.

Gerling led the Warriors with four of the team's 17 ground balls to go with the 11 stops, of which seven came in the first half. Katie McLoughlin earned the win for the Cougars, as she stopped 10 shots.

The Warriors will be out to get back to .500 when they host King's (Pa.) in non-conference action on Saturday, March 25, at 12 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
