Warriors run past Knights, 107-96

GLENSIDE, Pa. – With one of the best offensive performances of the season, three Lycoming College men's basketball players finished with at least 20 points, led by a career-high 26 points from junior Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall) helped lift Lycoming to a 107-96 win over Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4, at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Warriors (18-4 overall, 10-3 MAC Commonwealth) shot 47 percent from the floor (32-of-68), 47 percent from three (9-of-19) and 87 percent at the free throw line (34-of-39), helping to overwhelm the Knights (9-12 overall, 4-8 MAC Commonwealth), who scored the first 19 points of the game.

The Knights were forced into 19 turnovers while creating only 10, leading to Lycoming's 31-10 advantage in points off turnover and the Warriors' 15 offensive rebounds led to 23 second-chance points.

Four Warriors finished in double figures, led by Wallace's 26 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals, as he crossed 50 career blocks in the game. Sophomore T.J. Duckett (Severna Park, Md./Calvert Hall) had his second 20-point game in three outings, finishing with 21 points, five 3-pointers and four rebounds and senior Nyk King (Harlem, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math) posted 20 points, seven rebounds and two steals to cross the 900-point mark in his career. Senior David Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) added 18 points, hitting all 10 of his free throws, five rebounds and three steals.

Arcadia, which shot 62 percent from the field in the game (33-of-53), scored 19 points in the first five minutes while Lycoming missed its first six shots of the game before Wallace got the team on the board with a free throw with 14:46 left in the first half. Arcadia continued its run, leading by 25 at 30-5 with 12:32 left before the Warriors began to comeback, outscoring the Knights 37-25 in the rest of the half to make it 55-42 at the break.

The Warriors scored the first eight points of the second half to make it a five-point game just 95 seconds into the second half. The Warriors continued to threaten the Knights' lead and a 3-pointer from Duckett with 11:39 gave Lycoming a 68-67 lead with 11:39 left, its first lead of the game. A 3-pointer from Johnson with 6:04 left started a 12-2 run that gave Lycoming an eight-point lead with 4:20 left. The Knights were not able to get the lead back to two possessions and Lycoming hit all 10 of its free throws in the final minute to close the door.

Josh Scott led the Knights with 34 points and Phil Pierfly added 26 points and four rebounds. Ryan Kelley had 10 points, four assists and three steals.

Junior Alex Newbold (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) added nine points, five rebounds and three steals and senior Willie Kee (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) posted seven points and four assists.
