Warriors rout Wildcats, 88-35

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Holding Penn College to 10 points or less in three of four quarters, the Lycoming College women's basketball team was able to outrun its crosstown rival, posting an 88-35 non-conference win at Lamade Gym on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
 
Fourteen Warriors (3-1 overall) scored in the win, with three reaching double figures. Senior Haley Sipple (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) led the team with 15 points and two assists and senior Shelby Mueller (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) added 13 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Kayla Kline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) added 10 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Warriors scored 50 points in the paint and also shot 40 percent (8-of-20) from behind the arc in the win. They held a 29-6 advantage in points off turnovers and an 18-5 in second-chance points.
 
The Warriors rolled through the first quarter, going on a 24-5 run in the quarter, led by seven points from Sipple. In the second quarter, the Warriors kept rolling, expanding the lead to as many as 35 before heading to the locker room with a 47-16 lead.
 
The Warriors kept the momentum while turning to its bench for much of the second half, outscoring the Wildcats (1-3 overall), 24-10, in the fourth quarter.
 
Senior Hailey Fricke (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) and sophomore Hailey Dayton (Reisterstown, Md./St. Timothy's) each had seven points, with Dayton also adding five assists. Sophomore Megan Helminiak (Williamsport, Pa./St. John Neumann) posted six points off two 3-pointers and both sophomore Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) and freshman Tori Talanca (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) each had five points. Freshman Erica Lutz (Bernville, Pa./Hamburg) notched four points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
 
Penn College was led by 11 points and 12 rebounds from Cassi Kuhns and eight points a piece from Gwendolyn Lavelle and Jane Herman.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Sunday, Nov. 26, when they head to Susquehanna for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
