Hepner reaches milestone at Lycoming Tip-Off

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Emily Hepner (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) used 42 digs in a pair of matches to become the fourth player in school history to reach 1,400 digs in a season and earn All-Tournament Team honors, but the Lycoming College volleyball team fell in a pair of close matches to Penn State Behrend, 3-1, and Misericordia, 3-1, to wrap up the Lycoming College Tip-Off Tournament at Lamade Gym on Saturday, Oct. 7.
 
In the opening match, Penn State Behrend hit .308 for the match to take a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-16, 25-12) decision that was highlighted for Lycoming (11-11 overall) by Hepner's 21 digs, making her the fourth player in the school history to surpass 1,400 in a career.
 
Freshman Kiannah Titus (Clay, N.Y./Baldwinsville) and sophomore Alysa McDevitt (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each led the Warriors with six kills a piece and sophomore Katie Hausknecht (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) added five kills.
 
Senior Catherine Burger (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) notched 15 assists and three aces and sophomore Emily Morris (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) added 11 assists, four digs and an ace. Freshman Elle Jednorski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) added four kills and two blocks.
 
Rachel Frye led the Lions (10-10 overall) with 17 kills and Amanda Henry added 14 kills, two aces and six digs. Madison Clapper finished with 24 digs.
 
Hepner added 21 more digs in the closing match and Burger posted four kills, two aces, 25 assists and 12 digs, but Misericordia (12-12 overall) was able to take three-of-four tightly contested sets, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.
 
Titus and Hausknecht each led the Warriors with nine kills and McDevitt added six. Hausknecht also led the team with three blocks and Jednorski finished with four kills, two aces and two blocks. Junior Taylor Johnsonbaugh (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) finished with four kills and five digs and freshman Molly Ball (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area) added four kills and four digs.
 
Jassmine Watson led the Cougars with 13 kills and eight digs and Tara Welliver posted 12 kills. Ariana Gagliardi had 20 assists, five aces and 10 digs and Karley May posted 19 assists and nine digs. Sarah Pool posted 12 digs and four aces.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Oct. 10, when they head to Arcadia University for a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match.
