Warriors storm back to conquer Mustangs, 4-1

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – After Stevenson University tied the game in the 77th minute off a penalty kick, eighth-ranked Lycoming College rebounded with three goals in the game's final 10 minutes to post a convincing 4-1 MAC Commonwealth win on Friday night, Oct. 20, at Mustang Stadium.

Just five minutes after the Mustangs (3-10-2 overall, 2-4 MAC Commonwealth) tied the game, the Warriors (15-2 overall, 6-1 MAC Commonwealth) responded with quick precision. Senior Kyle Stettenbauer (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) won a loose ball off a free kick inside the box and hit the post, where junior Sainclair Tueno (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) fired in the rebound for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Less than a minute later, the Warriors won the ball on their half of the field and senior Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) flicked a pass ahead to senior Duc Momo (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), who beat the keeper for his career-high tying fourth goal of the year. Senior Keenthy Yeboah (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) added the final goal on a penalty kick in the 89th minute for his career-high tying fifth goal.

The win helped the Warriors clinch a top-three seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship, guaranteeing it a spot in the conference semifinals. The team also won its 15th game of the year, marking just the fifth time in program history it has reached the plateau, and the third time in the last five years under head coach Nate Gibboney.

Lycoming got on the board in the 25th minute, when senior Kyle Thomas (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) caught the edge of a header that deflected off a Stevenson defender and into the net off a free kick from junior Jake Webb (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic). Stevenson drew even with less than 14 minutes remaining off a penalty kick from D.R. Medtart.

Junior Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) stopped one shot and faced nine in the win. Jake Brown stopped six shots, as Lycoming took 24 and hit the post three times in the game.

The Warriors get back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 25, when they host Juniata College in a non-conference game at 3:30 p.m.
